Energy cooperation in the three sub-regions is based on achieving self-sufficiency for countries through local production capabilities. Traditional energy sources of oil, gas, hydroelectric energy and uranium cover the needs of the region’s societies and weak economies. As for clean energy sources of photovoltaic energy and green hydrogen, the capabilities of the regions allow covering the needs of the world as a whole.
The Nigerian gas pipeline project through Niger and Algeria towards Europe is a promising project that allows for the consolidation of cooperation between southern and northern Sahara and opens a security challenge for the authorities to protect, which will be fraught with risks if societal issues are not
addressed and local development is supported in the areas through which the danger passes, especially since some regional parties are seeking to Forming terrorist groups in these areas to thwart the project and make the project that passes through Morocco a success, despite the fact that studies indicate its futility due to its cost and duration of completion, which are not compatible with the European partner.
As for renewable energies, electric car projects are gradually invading the world, and the interregional region has all the raw materials from cobalt (Congo), lithium, and solar energy, allowing the establishment of a transportation industry relying on renewable energies.
Many countries are also interested in the field of uranium, especially Canada, with its project that will be launched in 2025 in Niger, which allows for the provision of broad investment areas with international partners that are not colonial-oriented.
